This partial list of warrior queens and other women warriors runs from the legendary Amazons — who may have been real warriors from the Steppes — to the Syrian queen of Palmyra, Zenobia. Ivariel heals physically and then emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. She must face her past And the epilogue assures us that she returns.
But I still want stories from the missing time! Sep 16, LowBrowReader rated it it was amazing Shelves: abusive-past , fantasy , slow-burn , likeable-male-protagonist , matriarchal-society , cinnamon-roll.
It is a last of 3-part series and is mainly concentrating on the character growth and and Ivariels' slow healing. There is a threat but not much on-page violence.
It's mainly Ivariel trying to come to the terms with some scary aspects of her psyche, flashes of previous trauma and abuse and figure out what she will do about Ochieng's gentle nudges to accept his love and the assurances that intimacy is not a scary thing to detest and endure.
Jan 12, Margaret S. Boendier rated it it was amazing. The best yet I have enjoyed a! It is easy to write about virgin love but to understand and put into words the struggles the abused face is very difficult.
And yet , she has done it. Beautifully, tenderly, fiercely and pasionately. Jan 14, Make rated it really liked it.
There is plenty of action to be had, with warring magic and majestic battling elephants. Mar 29, Nicole Luiken rated it really liked it Shelves: novella-anthology , ebook.
A story of healing and a gentle love story. Bonus points for the elephants. Quibble: Again, the cover and title don't seem to fit the book.

Its been awhile since I finished Warrior of the World. I meant to write this review earlier, but I needed a bit of time to think about it and then, life got in the way.
While Prisoner and Exile move very quickly, the pace of Warrior is much slower. I think I expected a lot more action right off the bat.
That wasnt this book. In Prisoner, Jenna was in survival mode. She was intentionally sheltered by her mother I received an ARC copy of this book from Netgalley after requesting it from the author.
She was intentionally sheltered by her mother and given no survival skills other than political ones.
When she realized how sadistic Rudolf was and how her parents basically sold her to him anyway, she ran for her life and managed to escape.
Her friend Kaja is especially helpful in helping her find a new identity that will allow Jenna to take a vow of silence and of chastity.
We also meet Ochieng in this book. In an effort to defend herself, her newfound home, and the elephants, Ivariel allows Rudolf to take her and eventually kills him in a fit of rage brought on by her lifelong trauma.
Ivariel has to come to terms that she is neither Jenna nor Ivariel. She struggles greatly. Throughout much of the book, Ivariel is afraid of herself and wonders if she has any control over her rage and her fighting abilities.
I like that Mrs. Efe is a young elephant who is wary of others around her. Having been abandoned by her own family, Efe is very cautious and distrustful.
She and Ivariel both have to figure out their place in the world and come to trust their new home. He was honest with her all the way and let her heal slowly.
Ivariel did have a setback when they were attacked and Femi passed away. I think the imagery of the wedding log soaked in blood was potent imagery.
Ivariel was worried that everyone she loved would be in danger from her and the log brought the worry back to the forefront.
I love that she slowly works through her fears and eventually redirects her skills to negotiate peace and keep her village safe.
She learned that it was not too late to become what you wanted to be. Nov 26, Lynn rated it really liked it.
The young woman who was Princess Jenna before her brutal and horrific marriage has transformed into Ivariel: a warrior who will never again be a victim.
Raised in a seraglio, her only education was to please a man in every way and accept whatever treatment, no matter how harsh, given to her.
Ivariel has found a home with Ochieng and his Dtiembo people. She is learning their language, culture and how to let go of the past and not let it define her future.
Being with a selfless man whose only The young woman who was Princess Jenna before her brutal and horrific marriage has transformed into Ivariel: a warrior who will never again be a victim.
Being with a selfless man whose only desire is her happiness is something so foreign to Ivariel that she has trouble accepting it as truth. Working and living with a people so different from her own upbringing, Ivariel learns who she is and what her needs and desires are for the first time as a young adult.
Gaining back her strength after a serious injury, Ivariel and Orchieng do the delicate dance of two people who desire each other, but have major obstacles to overcome.
Ivariel worries that she may never be able to be free of what she suffered at the hands of her evil and brutal deceased husband. She also is preparing for war and strife to find her again; it comes from a surprising place helping Ivariel to renew her commitment as a priestess adding a clarity to what and who she wants.
Elements from that story and this one will come together in the future to hopefully set in motions something Ivariel has longed and planned for quite some time to fulfill a sworn promise.
Jan 08, Ardith rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy. I found the writing eloquent. It maybe the fact that this is part of a larger universe that I felt it was not done.

As she and her army were marching through Asia towards Babylon, Cynane was confronted by another army commanded by Alcetas, the brother of Perdiccas and a former companion of Cynane.
Although Cynane never reached Babylon, her power play proved successful. The mother of Alexander the Great, Olympias was one of the most remarkable women in antiquity.
She was a princess of the most powerful tribe in Epirus a region now divided between northwest Greece and southern Albania and her family claimed descent from Achilles.
Thus the surviving texts often perceive her as a somewhat exotic character. She gave birth to Alexander the Great two years later in BC.
Further conflict was added to an already tempestuous relationship when Philip married again, this time a Macedonian noblewoman called Cleopatra Eurydice.
Thus there is a strong possibility that Olympias was involved in the subsequent murders of Philip II, Cleopatra Eurydice and her infant children.
She is often portrayed as a woman who stopped at nothing to ensure Alexander ascended the throne. This clash was the first time in Greek history that two armies faced each other commanded by women.
However, the battle ended before a sword blow was exchanged. In the end, the Roman military governor Suetonius Paullinus suppressed the revolt. Zenobia started as a regent for her son, but then claimed the throne, defying the Romans, and rode into battle against them.
She was eventually defeated by Aurelian and probably taken prisoner. In B. The Assyrian king captured her cities; she was forced to flee to the desert.
Suffering, she surrendered and was forced to pay tribute to the king. After two centuries of Chinese rule, the Vietnamese rose up against them under the leadership of two sisters , Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, who gathered an army of 80,
